History

The Green Party of Alaska was first established in 1991, by a small group of dedicated individuals seeking to nurture a culture of caring. Speaking for the planet and her people, over the last 30+ years, the mission has been to work to preserve the natural world from the onslaught of rampant consumerism. To protect species and cultural diversity from the the monoculture of capitalism.

In 2016 the state party, and the national federation, were spoiled by the fear of the reign of Trump. Our ranks diminished in search of a faint light of hope from the Democrats. They in-turn weaponized the environment turning a global challenge into a threat to our species. In their stewardship the situation has gone from bad to worse and the division between the cults of personality are driving our national into another civil war.

In 2020, a small band of radical thinkers came together with the mild ambition of building a party people wanted to join, an organization of impact. We started by adding the 12 principles of permaculture to the bylaws, which inspired our open endorsement position, our 10- year (2020-2030) transition plan, and our active engagement of other green parties, groups, and businesses to mainstream the regenerative economy in the US by 2030.

Starting in 2024, we are emerging from our winter slumber, defying those in the national federation who saw fit to expel us, and other states, in the name of “grassroots activism”. Stepping forward with an list of priorities and taking direct positive actions where ever we can to support our friends, neighbors, and communities to make the best of what comes next.
